Joel Donovan qualified as a solicitor before being called to the Bar. He practises in clinical negligence and personal injury.

Clinical negligence: Joel has a wealth of experience in complex claims such as those arising from serious birth injury, secondary brain injury, spinal cord injury, delayed cancer diagnosis/misdiagnosis and fatal cases. He has a particular interest in issues of primary and secondary limitation.

Personal injury: extensive trial and advisory experience in a range of heavy litigation including serious head injuries, Court of Protection cases, quadriplegia and paraplegia, psychiatric injury (including workplace stress cases), sporting and holiday injuries and Animals Act claims.

In Chambers UK 2009, Joel is recommended for Clinical Negligence. He is praised as a "sound tactician", commended for his "attention to detail, understanding of costs issues and excellent advocacy." He is rated in the Legal 500 UK 2009 as an "excellent leading junior".
