Caroline Musgrave
Profile
Caroline Musgrave joined Cloisters in 2009 on completion of her pupillage, and is swiftly developing a broad civil practice in employment and discrimination law, personal injury, clinical negligence and social security law.
Employment and Discrimination
Caroline has appeared at employment tribunals across the UK, successfully representing both claimants and respondents in a range of claims involving unfair dismissal, breach of contract, redundancy, TUPE transfers, and discrimination claims across the full range of protected grounds.
Caroline is presently instructed as junior counsel to Philip Engelman in the ongoing equal pay litigation of Brennan v Sunderland City Council.
Caroline is a keen supporter of FRU and has appeared at the employment appeal tribunal on behalf of a formerly unrepresented claimant.
In addition to tribunal representation Caroline advises on papers and strategy, drafts ET1s and ET3s and has experience advising claimants in the pursuit of their actions against insolvent defendants.
Personal Injury
Caroline's rapidly expanding personal injury practice encompasses advisory work, drafting and court appearances.
In other areas Caroline has worked alongside Paul Spencer and Rachel Crasnow in social and healthcare law, disciplinary proceedings and public law. She is keen to develop this area of her practice.
Previous Experience
Prior to practicing at the Bar, Caroline worked as an international relief and development professional managing the contractual relationship between a major UK NGO and the US, EU and British governments.
Caroline has spent several years working overseas including roles as Human Resources Manager in a post-Tsunami response in Indonesia, Project Management in Pakistani Kashmir and journalism in Rwanda.
Throughout Bar School Caroline worked as a self-employed consultant advising NGOs on US government funding and the legal liabilities of British charities working internationally.
Caroline remains interested and actively involved in international development principally through her membership of Advocates for International Development (A4ID) and her ongoing relationship with the NGOs she has previously worked for.
