December 2010

Employment law specialist, Yvette Budé, has joined Cloisters’ expanding equality and discrimination practice.  Yvette has particular expertise in sex and pregnancy discrimination and age discrimination claims and extensive experience of high value, multi-week and complex discrimination trials.

Yvette is regularly instructed by blue chip companies, NHS trusts, the Department for Work and Pensions and senior employees in cases covering the spectrum of discrimination issues including sex, pregnancy, age, race, disability, sexual orientation and part-time workers.  Testament to her skill, Yvette regularly acts for individual solicitors in highly sensitive discrimination claims against some of the top law firms.  She has appeared in the High Court, the EAT, County Courts and employment tribunals.

Robin Allen QC, head of Cloisters, commented: “Solicitors sing their praises for Yvette’s strategic approach to complex and sensitive discrimination claims.  She is renowned for providing excellent legal and strategic advice while being very personable and telling it like it is."

Called to the UK bar in 2003, Yvette has been admitted to the New York Bar since 1998, qualified as a solicitor in England and Wales in 2001, and is also qualified to advise on Dutch law. Along with employment and equality law, Yvette has wide-ranging experience in commercial litigation, including telecommunications, and tax.

Yvette joins Cloisters from Devereux Chambers and previously practised as a solicitor as Freshfields.  Yvette frequently lectures and publishes on all areas of employment law.
