Akua will address the Edinburgh University branch of Academics for Academic Freedom (EAFAF) in a public discussion on Academic Freedom and the Law on 20 May 2023.

This timely event comes as the Higher Education (Freedom of Speech) Bill nears the conclusion of its Parliamentary passage in Westminster.

Akua will consider whether Scotland would benefit from similar legislation in light of recent events such as Edinburgh University’s last minute cancellation, for the second time, of the screening by EAFAF of the documentary “Adult Human Female” because of threats to safety posed by protestors.

Also appearing at the event is Joanna Cherry KC MP, who is currently facing the cancellation of her “In Conversation With” live interview at an Edinburgh Fringe event after staff at the venue said that they would not work at the event because of her views on sex and gender.
