Cloisters members help to scope how the public sector is addressing the challenges posed by new forms of AI

The Ada Lovelace Institute published its important Review of Foundation Models in the Public Sector on 12 October 2023. Cloisters’ Robin Allen KC and Dee Masters were commissioned by Ada to examine the legal regulation of foundation models for this Review.

More information about their work is here: https://ai-lawhub.com/.

Working with Cloisters’ Ameer Ismail , they identified gaps where foundation models and related concepts were directly addressed or mentioned in UK legislation, regulations and guidance, and therefore where there were significant omissions which should be addressed.  More detail about their research and conclusions is set out in Ada’s report.

This commission from Ada underlines again the leading role that Cloisters’ Technology Group barristers are playing in the developing discussions about the use and regulation of artificial intelligence in the UK.
