Laurene Veale has written an analysis of a recent judgment of the European Court of Justice on religion and protected belief discrimination for the Discrimination Law Association.

She argues that the judgment may come as a disappointment to those who see European case law as having been too permissive of employers excluding women from the workplace because they wear a headscarf.

Laurene explores the question of appropriate comparators and the difference between direct and indirect discrimination in the EU case law.
