In movement lawyering, legal advocates support community groups and their members, those with direct lived experience of the issues, to build power, develop leadership and change social and cultural environments. In practice, at its heart is real collaboration with communities with lived experience of the systems that need to change; not just in sharing stories but to step back and allow others to lead while developing a true understanding of needs and priorities and determine together the best tools to bring about impactful change.

The training will be held at Garden Court North on Tuesday 25th in Manchester whereby Laura will be starting the day off with an introduction to the model and examples from the US and UK.

The event will be attended by lawyers, campaigners and organisers from across the UK and will bring people together to learn and connect for future collaboration.  Laura will be joined in presenting by Savan Qadir (Citizens UK), Jason Tetley (Greater Manchester Law Centre) and Jean Demars (Public Interest Law Centre).  The event was coordinated by Justice Together Initiative where Laura was Acting Head from 2020 – 2021.

Further information about the work carried out by the Strategic Legal Fund and Justice together, who have both coordinated the event, can be found here:
