Carl Sargeant Judicial Review Proceedings issued
Cloisters’ Head of Public and Administrative Law, Sheryn Omeri is instructed on behalf of Bernadette Sargeant, widow of the late Carl Sargeant member of the Welsh Assembly, led by Leslie Thomas QC.
Mr. Sargeant took his own life in November 2017 after being suspended from his post by the First Minister of Wales. The First Minister committed to establishing an independent inquiry which would examine his actions and decisions in the period leading up to Mr. Sargeant’s suspension and death.
Proceedings were issued in the High Court on behalf of Mrs. Sargeant challenging the proposed operation of the inquiry, the chair of which will have power to exclude her and the Sargeant family from hearings of evidence about matters touching upon her husband’s state of mind prior to his death.
