The Lawyer has updated its research on gender, the employment bar and court appearances at EAT level and above. The article makes sobering reading highlighting the many barriers that women still face. However, Cloisters is delighted to note that Daphne Romney QC is the busiest female silk in the EAT and Court of Appeal and Rachel Barrett is the busiest female junior in the Court of Appeal. Schona Jolly QC is also highlighted as the only female employment silk appointment in 2016-17. There is still plenty of work to be done ensuring that women thrive at the bar but research like that undertaken by The Lawyer provides a useful measuring stick against which progress can be assessed.
