Today, Cloisters’ Head of Public Law, Sheryn Omeri, appears in the Administrative Court, together with Hugh Southey QC of Matrix Chambers to argue for permission to intervene on behalf of the Independent Workers Union of Great Britain, in the most wide-ranging public law challenge to the coronavirus lockdown restrictions to be brought to date. The challenge is brought by UK businessman, Simon Dolan who argues that lockdown was and is unlawful. Sheryn and Hugh will argue that restrictions protect low-paid workers and people of Black, Asian and Minority Ethnicity who are the worst affected by the virus. The Court previously ordered that the parties must attend for an oral hearing at which it will hear submissions about whether permission to apply for judicial review should be granted to Mr Dolan.
