Update to ‘Ogden’ actuarial compensation tables for personal injury cases

A new supplementary set of Ogden Tables which contain multipliers calculated at minus 0.25%, has now been published.

On 15 July 2019 the Lord Chancellor announced that, under the provisions of Section A1 of the Damages Act 1996 (as amended by the Civil Liability Act 2018), the prescribed discount rate to be taken into account by the courts when assessing lump sum damages awards for personal injury would be increased from minus 0.75% to minus 0.25% with effect from 5 August 2019.

Tables of multipliers in the current 7th edition of the Ogden Tables are not tabulated at a rate of return of minus 0.25%. Hence supplementary tables have been issued which provide multipliers at the current tabulated discount rates, together with multipliers calculated at discount rates of minus 0.25% and minus 0.75%.
