Cloisters’ Schona Jolly, Vice Chair Bar Human Rights Committee, will speak at the British Institute of International and Comparative Law (BIICL) event entitled: Human Rights in the Middle East and North Africa Region on Wednesday 13 July 2016 at Charles Clore House, 17 Russell Square, London. Time:17.30 – 19.00.
This event will discuss the implementation of international human rights law within the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region, with an emphasis on the norms that protect education.
Speakers will discuss the role and implementation of international human rights law within MENA in general, the interaction between Islamic law and international human rights law, the role of the popular uprisings in legal reforms, the implementation of legal norms protecting education within certain MENA States (Egypt, Iraq and Lebanon), as well as provide practical insights into the provision of education in response to the Syrian conflict and in Iraq.
This event will be the opportunity for BIICL to launch its latest research, commissioned by Protect Education in Conflict (PEIC), on the protection of education in the MENA region.
