Sheryn Omeri KC to speak at IBA Annual Conference in Paris

On Wednesday, 1 November 2023, at the IBA Annual Conference in Paris, France, Cloisters’ Sheryn Omeri KC will join a panel of eminent international lawyers addressing the topic: “The employment relationship redefined: change of the foundation of employment laws.”

Sheryn will speak to the question of whether there has been a permanent power shift from employers to employees.

The session has been organised by the IBA’s Employment and Industrial Relations Law Sub-Committee, chaired by Patrick Benaroche of Stikeman Elliot, Montreal and Vikram Shroff of Nishith Desai Associates, Mumbai.

Sheryn has extensive experience considering and analysing the relationship of workers to putative employers. She was, together with Cloisters’ Jason Galbraith-Marten KC, counsel for the lead Claimant Uber drivers in the worker status case of our time Uber BV v Aslam & Farrar and later became leading counsel, leading Tom Gillie, formerly of Cloisters. She is also counsel for a group of Australian Uber drivers in employment status proceedings pending before the Federal Court of Australia (Weddall & Ors v Rasier Pacific & Anor).
