Cherno Jagne is the Chief Operating Officer of Cloisters Chambers, with overall responsibility for the strategic leadership, operational management, and long‑term sustainability of Chambers. Working closely with the Management Committee, the Joint Heads of Chambers and Heads of Department, he plays a central role in shaping strategic direction and overseeing business planning, governance, financial management and operational performance, while ensuring that Cloisters continues to deliver an exceptional standard of service to its clients and members.
Cherno joined Cloisters in 2022, bringing extensive experience in chambers management and complex operational leadership. Prior to this, he served as Head of Operations at a leading set of chambers for seven years, having previously spent four years at the same chambers in a range of roles, including as a Junior Clerk and Legal Researcher. In that capacity, he provided Devlin work on several high‑profile and groundbreaking matters, including the MPs’ Expenses Scandal, the phone hacking litigation and the inquiry into the assassination of former Lebanese Prime Minister Rafic Hariri. As Head of Operations, he was responsible for Chambers governance, strategic development, and operational delivery.
Following this, Cherno went on to serve as Chief Operating Officer of one of the largest non‑governmental organisations in the UK providing humanitarian aid and advocacy for refugees and migrants internationally. Here he was responsible for managing multidisciplinary teams, campaigns and operations across Greece, France, the United States and the United Kingdom. This international experience has given him a broad and nuanced perspective on organisational leadership, risk management, and stakeholder engagement across diverse and high‑profile settings.
Cherno holds an LLB in Law and an LLM in Intellectual Property Law, and recently completed the Executive Leadership Programme at Oxford University, Saïd Business School, further strengthening his expertise in executive leadership, organisational strategy and decision‑making.
Outside of his operational role, Cherno is also a creative practitioner. He has performed in the West End, appearing in the multi‑award‑winning play The Jungle, directed by Stephen Daldry and Justin Martin, and has more recently expanded his work into filmmaking. He wrote and directed the award‑winning short film The Backway, which has screened internationally and received critical acclaim. This creative background continues to inform his strategic thinking, storytelling sensibility and leadership approach.
