Robin Allen KC’s AI insights on last week’s Sky News report

Robin Allen KC shared his AI expertise in a Sky News report about companies increasingly using artificial intelligence (AI) for recruitment purposes, namely scanning CVs, and analysing body language and facial expressions in video interviews.

While AI can, and does, use the evidence at its disposal to score candidates for human resources (HR) personnel keen to introduce efficiencies to this time-intensive aspect of their roles, particularly amidst claims that job application volumes are soaring, there are limitations for the organisation and repercussions for the job seeker, as the technology’s not without its flaws.

With the UK rated second in the world among the businesses studied for utilising AI in hiring, training and firing processes, Sky News interviews a make-up artist (Anthea) who lost her job when she had to reapply for the post following a period of furlough and got marked down by an AI tool. Our resident AI specialist Robin reinforces the argument by speaking on the subject of much-needed AI regulation.

“The first step is to recognise that this requires regulation,” explains Robin. “When we have these technology systems in the workplace, there have to be people who are capable of saying the computer’s got it wrong.”
