Schona Jolly KC joined ‘Special International Tribunal for the Crime of Aggression Against Ukraine’ conference

At a full-day event at Westminster on Thursday 1st February 2024, public international advocate and litigator, Schona Jolly KC, joined the esteemed speaking panel comprising lawyers, politicians, diplomats and civil society from the UK and Ukraine to discuss justice and accountability for Ukraine and the approach to establishing a Special Tribunal to prosecute Russia’s leadership for the crime of aggression.

In a session titled ‘The impact of war – the issues facing a tribunal for Ukraine’, alongside fellow leading experts in the public international law field, Schona discussed practical steps and issues of international human rights law in the approach towards such a Tribunal.

Other sessions at the conference included the history of special tribunals, potential models for the Ukraine’s special tribunal and challenges in building a prosecution, with special keynote addresses, reflections and closing remarks by Denys Maliuska (Ukraine’s Minister of Justice), Andriy Kostin (Ukraine’s Prosecutor General), Rt Hon Victoria Prentis KC MP (UK’s Attorney General) and Alicia Kearns MP, Chair of the UK Parliamentary Foreign Affairs Committee.
