Robin Allen KC appointed Honorary President of the Discrimination Law Association

Cloisters is delighted to announce that Robin Allen KC has been appointed Honorary President of the Discrimination Law Association (DLA).

Robin succeeds the late Sir Geoffrey Bindman KC, who served as the DLA’s previous Honorary President. As one of the DLA’s founders and a long-standing supporter of the organisation, Robin has been involved with its work for more than 40 years.

Throughout his career, Robin has been at the forefront of equality and discrimination law, acting in significant cases across the UK and Europe. His practice spans employment, equality and equal pay, discrimination, human rights and public law, and he has acted in leading cases concerning protected characteristics at the highest appellate levels.

Robin has also made a significant contribution to equality and diversity within the legal profession. He served for six years as Chair of the Bar’s Equality and Diversity Committee and was involved in developing the Pre-Application Judicial Education Programme (PAJE), which aims to support greater judicial diversity. In 2018, he delivered the prestigious Hamlyn Lectures on equality law.

Commenting on his appointment, Robin said:

“For a very long time, Sir Geoffrey Bindman’s steadfast work in campaigning for equality was an inspiration for me and for many. So, it is both a great honour, and a deep responsibility, to be asked to succeed him as President of the Discrimination Law Association.”

Robin added that he looks forward to supporting the DLA’s work and, in particular, encouraging the next generation of equality lawyers and activists to join and contribute.
