Mark Skipp is the Deputy Senior Clerk at Cloisters Chambers and plays a key role in supporting the management and development of members’ practices across Chambers. He has held his current position since 2012 and brings over 25 years’ clerking experience, combining deep institutional knowledge with a practical, client‑focused approach.
Mark joined Cloisters in February 2001 as a Junior Clerk and has progressed his career entirely within Cloisters to his present senior role. Having worked at Cloisters throughout his clerking career, he has developed a detailed and comprehensive understanding of each barrister’s practice, enabling him to provide informed, strategic and tailored support to both members and clients alike.
Friendly, approachable and highly responsive, Mark is known for providing an excellent level of service. He places great importance on building strong and lasting relationships with solicitors, lay clients and professional contacts, and is committed to ensuring that work is allocated fairly and efficiently, with a focus on meeting clients’ needs while supporting the long‑term development of members’ practices.
Mark is responsible for the allocation of work, fee negotiation, client relationships and the strategic development of practices across Chambers. He prides himself on helping to nurture and develop practices at every stage of a barrister’s career, from the most junior members through to Chambers’ leading silks. His collaborative approach and commercial insight allow him to support members in growing sustainable, successful practices in an increasingly competitive legal market.
In 2023, Mark was shortlisted for Clerk of the Year at The Legal 500 Bar Awards, alongside a highly regarded list of fellow clerks. This recognition reflects his standing within the profession and his ongoing commitment to excellence, professionalism and client service.
Outside of work, Mark enjoys spending time with his family and has a keen interest in sport, in particular football and golf. He is a UEFA C qualified football coach and is the Girls’ Academy Manager at Leyton Orient FC.
