Employment Tribunal awards £1.45 million following Goldman Sachs discrimination claim

‍The Employment Tribunal has awarded approximately £1.45 million to the claimant in Reeves v Goldman Sachs International, following its earlier judgment that he had been unfairly dismissed and subjected to direct sex discrimination after taking an extended period of shared parental leave. Rebecca Tuck KC acted for the successful claimant throughout the proceedings.

Liability‍ ‍

In its liability judgment, the Tribunal found that the claimant had been subjected to direct sex discrimination when Goldman Sachs alleged that he had underperformed, reduced his remuneration and ultimately dismissed him following a redundancy process. The Tribunal also held that the dismissal was unfair, concluding that the redundancy process adopted by the Respondent was unfair.‍ ‍

Remedy‍ ‍

In its remedy judgment, promulgated on 29 July 2026, the Employment Tribunal awarded compensation of approximately £1.45 million, including compensation for past and future financial losses, injury to feelings and other consequential losses.‍ ‍

The Tribunal found that the claimant's dismissal and the discrimination he suffered had significantly affected his future career prospects within the financial services sector, which was reflected in its assessment of future loss.‍ ‍

The judgment has attracted widespread media coverage, including in the Financial Times, The Times, Bloomberg, The Banker, City AM and HR Magazine.‍ ‍

Rebecca was instructed by Saimah Malik of GWH Solicitors at the liability stage and by Jo Keddie and Danielle Crawford of Forsters LLP at the remedy stage.‍ ‍
